The African lawyers under the aegis of the African Bar Association have condemned the illegal detention of one Mr Alex Saab, a Venezuelan Ambassador, in Cape Verde.
This was contained in a press release issued on Monday signed by its President, Hannibal Uwaifo, and made available to SaharaReporters.
In the letter, the association of legal representatives in Africa was alerted to the infringement on his human rights by his family.

The African Bar Association, AFBA, has called on the President of Cape Verde to release a Venezuelan Diplomat, Mr. Alex Saab who is allegedly being detained in Cape Verde since 2020.
Addressing a press conference Monday in Lagos, President of AFBA, Hannibal Uwaifo, stated that the association’s investigation revealed that Saab’s continued detention since last year is in breach of ECOWAS Protocols, the Charter of the African Union and a gross violent violation of international law.
According to him, upon receipt of a petition from Mr. Saab’s wife, the Governing Council of AFBA authorised its Human Rights and International Law Committees to investigate the matter.

The South-East South-South Professionals of Nigeria, (SESSPN) has commended Nigerians, Africans and the global community for endorsing Dr. Ngozi Okonjo- Iweala as the substantive Director General of World Trade Organization WTO.
A statement by the group’s Publicity Secretary, Mr Collins Steve Ugwu and signed by the President, Mr Hannibal Uwaifo, said the world has opened a new page of inclusion with the emergence of Okonjo-Iweala.

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Ibrahim Muhammad has urged for the unification of the African Judiciary if it must compete favourably with its counterpart across the globe.
Justice Muhammad who made the call on lawyers in the African continent however admonished them to always show professionalism in the discharge of the legal duties.
A statement issued yesterday by the CJN’s media aide, Mr. Ahuraka Isah, said Muhammad gave the charge when he hosted a delegation of the African Bar Association (AFBA) in his office at the Supreme Court, Abuja.
While thanking them for the visit the CJN said the association should do everything it can to ensure African lawyers “compete favourably amongst the best of lawyers around the world in content and good character. “This is because African bench can’t be clean if its origin is filthy”.
