HANNIBAL — A platted street that was never developed will likely soon be vacated by the city of Hannibal. A bill that would accomplish just such an objective was given
HANNIBAL â The Hannibal City Council gave first reading Tuesday night to a bill that would officially create a zoning district that was thought to already exist.
The city of Hannibal has for years included P-1 zoning on its maps. However, it was recently discovered that there is no actual zoning associated with P-1 Parks and Recreation description.
According to Edie Graupman, management assistant in the department of public works the city would like to correct the oversight.
âThis new zoning district, known as P-1 Parks and Recreation, will be adopted to provide for public park facilities and open space to enhance and preserve the cityâs recreational, scenic, cultural and historic sites, and areas of public enjoyment,â wrote Graupman in a memo to the council.
HANNIBAL â Guidelines which are used by the Historic Development District Commission to maintain continuity in the Hannibal Downtown Historic District could be changing, but not in the immediate future.
During Tuesday nightâs meeting of the Hannibal City Council proposed changes regarding upper façade windows was tabled out of concern that such action could wind up costing the city grant money.
According to Edie Graupman, Department of Public Works management assistant, the HDDC has determined that the 2009 version of its guideline book is no longer relevant to the standards that are required for todayâs uses. Consequently it would like to repeal and replace each section of the book one at a time, starting with the upper façade window section.
HANNIBAL â With an increase in the number of visitors to Hannibal already occurring, along with group/convention inquiries also on the rise, the Hannibal Convention and Visitors Bureau finds itself in need of additional staff. During Tuesday nightâs meeting of the Hannibal City Council first reading was given a request from the HCVB to fill two positions.
Gail Bryant, director of the HCVB, intends to hire one part-time associate at the Visitors Center and a full-time sales manager, who will provide services to the increase in visitation, inquiries and bookings.
According to Bryant, staffing was reduced at the HCVB a year ago.
