great to see you. if confirmed, what does this reporting tell you about their weapons program now? it shows that all of the programs are continuing and perhaps even expanding. the last several weeks, we have had intelligence leaks or non-government satellite imagery analysis indicating that the expansion of the programs. there s no reduction in the arsenal. there s no reduction in the production capabilities. is that flatly a breach in violation of the handshake agreement between trump and kim jong-un from singapore? it may not, per se, be a violation of the singapore communiq communique, because there was no deal reached.
trump auto tariffs that he seems to be thinking about, that could disrupt that because the europeans really very, very big in the auto market and care a lot about that. so the question is, does trump ruin all of your plans for trump? that s a great question. and look, i am nervous about the trade situation as you are, and correctly so. i do think what happened on wednesday this week, fredricka, was a big deal. it s a handshake agreement, but if the europeans go forward with this, they capitulated. they basically said we re going to lower our tariffs on american agricultural products or manufacturing products, our oil and gas. that s good news. that s always what trump has wanted. trump is not a trade protectionist. he wants to level the playing field. i don t think they agreed to much of anything, actually. how much confidence do you have? until it really is happening and there is an agreement, right now, it was kind of like in principle. this is very complicated stuff and what
very young children by tomorrow morning. as for the 54 children who will see their parents tomorrow, they will be brought to i.c.e. facilities around the country to reconnect. david? all right, pierre thomas. and we know you ll stay on it. pierre, thank you. meantime, president trump facing new tension tonight with north korea. after the president declared the nuclear threat was over, this weekend, rocky talks between secretary of state mike pompeo and north korean officials. he did not even meet with kim jong-un during his trip. here s our chief white house correspondent jonathan karl tonight. reporter: it was just after his big summit with kim jong-un that president trump declared, quote, there is no longer a nuclear threat from north korea. but now, one month later, their handshake agreement could be falling apart. we still have a long ways to go. reporter: that was secretary of state mike pompeo today after his tense weekend trip to north korea. in pyongyang, the top no
decisions about what can be reduced and where it s located, do the inventories. and finally you get a document and you get the historic handshake agreement. in this case, it was flipped upside down. you start with the handshake and all the flags and trump comes home and claims a win. and then we get down to work in assessing what do the north koreans have? what do they have that they ve been trying to hide? what are they continuing to build? so i think to be honest, i think it s still better to be in a diplomatic process even though you re running the catch up in a sense than where we were a year ago with the very direct threats of taking out the north korean nuclear capability. yeah. and we ll see now as mike pompeo, secretary of state goes to pyongyang for another round of conversations this week to
missile than the other great man? the downside is considerable. a meeting is not a success, even an agreement is not a success. the reality will be the success and this ego and this sense of this grandiosity on an issue like this is kind of frightening. the other line of this is this is not also one of those things where you can say we will cut a deal and let somebody else work out the details. the devil, very literally is in the details in a situation like this. the devil is in the room. it is. what you need is you need months of preparation, you need nuclear security experts who can go in and valley exactly the state of the program and what kind of protections can be put in place. a handshake agreement is not going to cut night we have to sneak in our last break. we ll be right back.
