Ottawa Fire Services got multiple 911 calls starting at 8:57 p.m. reporting flames visible from a balcony on the roof of the hotel at the intersection of Dalhousie and York streets.
Arriving four minutes later, firefighters made their way to the rooftop and found the deck and patio furnishings had been consumed by the flames. They had the fire under control at 9:11 p.m. after making sure it hadn’t spread into the structure.
An Ottawa Fire Services investigator went to the scene and determined the fire likely originated from a cigarette discarded in a planter box.
