know, investigation into his political opponent. i think had that all not happened, we wouldn t be where we are, and many of those frontliners have said that to me and said, you know, it was tough for us back then, but when this started unfolding, it was so much more egregious because the president is now in the white house and he s done it before. we ve seen the same pattern and now he s in the white house doing this and it s unfolding in front of us and we have testimony from people, many of whom were appointed for the president, working for the president. and so, i think that it all has been eight months of people absorbing what is happening. and here s the thing. you know, it s like being a parent. when you don t set any limit for your kid, they are going to continue to push and push and push. but in that situation, maybe you get a broken vase. in this situation, we get a president who destroys our democracy. and that, really, fundamentally, is what these two articles were about. s
was that the media was not helping basically not trying to harm him but the presidents realizing his allies are in the republican party and that his approach has always been to push and push and push. the biden approach though on all of this has been very curious to me. i don t know go beyond seeing the picture, i don t know that he says he didn t talk to his son about it. we haven t seen that. we haven t heard from them but they are going to have to testify at some point. jesse: when you play golf with the foreign minister, your son just so happens to be appointed to the same gas company in ukraine, how do you guys know each other? the father, joe biden, doing business in ukraine for the administration. they re talking about the weather. come on. don t be silly. bud selig thing i know about
might not expect. as the new york times puts it, biden says no to a compromise with the gop on guns. warren differs. is they there any compromise to be made on it? none. i think there s no compromise. this is one we just have to push and push and push. do you see a compromise to be made with republicans in congress on guns short of expanded background checks? i don t know something that they agree to some things and not that one? that s part of what making la h legislation is all about. right now join meg is carlos car bellow and former senior adviser to the hillary clinton campaign, adrienne elrod. adrienne, biden is saying that the solution to this is not
made? there is no compromise. thiss one we just have to push, push, push, and push and push. reporter: and there are some distinctions in how these candidates are talking about addressing gun violence. elizabeth warren, for example, says she wants to reduce gun violence by 80%. you hear candidates like cory booker a talking about a national gun licensing program. this is something they have shied away from in the past. not this time. they are leaning into it in pretty aggressive fashion. shaq, thank you. let me bring in florida democratic congressman who represents southeast florida, including a big part of the city of miami. thanks for being back on the show. and i want to ask you about hurricane dorian in a minute. senator mcconnell said if the president supports it he might be open to something on guns and background checks. is anything you have heard from senator mcconnell giving you hope for compromise when congress gets back in town? a tiny bit of hope.
one we have to push, push, push, and push. fact of the matter is it will result in seeing that is that the gun issue next fall? i don t see anything out there, do you? i ve seen nothing, the president has no intestinal fortitude to deal with this. he knows better. his instinct was to say, yeah, we re going to do something. come on, this is disgraceful. this is disgraceful. the current vice president mike pence, they ve just said that attorney general as part of gun violence legislation, that will include expediting a death penalty for mass murder. what is your standpoint on that? it s irrelevant. look, this is what we ve always done before in the past. it s what you do when you can t get something done that s
