BAA Fellowship Show 2021 Call For Art

PITTSFIELD, Mass. Berkshire County college art majors are invited to apply for the 2021 juried Berkshire Art Association College Fellowship Show.  $5,000 in fellowship grants will be awarded to college art majors whose work is selected. The Fellowship is open to Berkshire County residents enrolled as art majors at any college in the country, as well as to non-residents majoring in art at a Berkshire County college – Berkshire Community College, MCLA, Williams, and Simon s Rock.    The call for art  will open on Friday, Jan. 8, and close on  Sunday, Feb. 21 , 2021 at 11:59 pm. Submission will be through https://baafellowshipshow2021.artcall.org/.  The show will open on April 2 and run until April 20, 2021. The Virtual Awards Ceremony is Saturday, April 9 at 6:00 pm.

State Firefighting Academy Graduates Berkshire County Firefighters

  State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey and Massachusetts Firefighting Academy (MFA) Director David C. Evans announced the graduation of 27 members of the Call/Volunteer Recruit Firefighter Training Class #88.    Among these graduates are Tanelle Ciempa of the Adams Fire Department, Trevor DeRis of the Great Barrington Fire department, Charllee Sanchez-Rios of the North Adams Fire Department and William Graves, William Kipp, and Jamieson Williams all of the Hancock Fire Department.   First responders are on the frontlines protecting their communities and these newest firefighters are needed now more than ever. We have taken greater advantage of online learning technology, reduced group training size to increase social distancing, implemented screening, and required mask-wearing to keep our instructors and students as safe as possible during these uncertain times, MFA Director Evans said. 

Fire Destroys House in Oakland

OAKLAND — Two firefighters received minor injuries in a house fire on Tuesday evening, after falling through a floor. Oakland Fire Chief Brant Miller said the Oakland, Carson and Hancock Fire Departments were called out at about 9:49 p.m. Tuesday for a residential fire on Gates Street in Oakland. On arrival crews were faced with heavy fire at the rear of the building. They knocked down fire on the exterior of the structure, and entered the building to work on the fire inside. At that time, two firefighters fell through the floor into the basement when a portion of the floor collapsed.
