Smokers have been fined hundreds
BRAZEN smokers have been fined hundreds of pounds across Hampshire for dropping cigarette ends on the ground. Dropping a cigarette butt on the ground may seem like a small offence but it can cause great harm to the environment and local wildlife- not to mention it makes our streets look untidy. Here are a handful of locals who paid big fees for their littering in recent months.
Vicki Anne Marie Hayden of Butlers Close, Romsey, was slapped with a £75 fine for dropping a cigarette butt in Solartron Road, Farnborough. The 33-year-old appeared at North Hampshire Magistrates Court in December, where she was also told to cough up £32 in a victim surcharge and pay costs of £43.
Southampton Magistrates Court A WIMBORNE woman has been sentenced after she was found guilty of assault and criminal damage offences in the New Forest. Rebecca Allsopp, 42, was accused of assaulting a woman by beating her in Godshill on October 11, 2019. She was also alleged to have damaged an internal wall at an address in Burley between October 4 and October 10, 2019. Allsopp, whose address was given as Whitchampton Lane, Wimborne, pleaded not guilty to both charges. However, she was found guilty of both offences at a West Hampshire Magistrates Court hearing on March 30. The defendant appeared at the same court for sentencing on April 28 and she was handed a 12-month community order.
Heard at Salisbury Magistrates this month: STEPHEN THOMAS-SHERGOLD, aged 34, of Lower Road, Salisbury, pleaded guilty to being in charge of a vehicle while under the influence of drugs. The incident took place along Wilton Road in Salisbury on December 31, 2019, when Thomas-Shergold had BZE in his blood - the main metabolite of cocaine. He indicated a plea of guilty to possessing cannabis and cannabis resin. He was fined a total of £300 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85. His driving record was endorsed with 10 points. GYULA ANTAL, aged 35, of Mount Close, Honiton, pleaded guilty to driving a Mercedes lorry along the A303 in Salisbury on January 27 last year without due care and attention. He was fined £307 and was ordered to pay a victim surcharge of £32 and costs of £85. His driving record was endorsed with five points.
A BANNED driver from the Isle of Wight has been imprisoned following several collisions with parked and driven cars in the Sandown Bay area. Tyler Booth was jailed for 18 months after he admitted driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop after an accident twice, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis on Thursday evening. The incident happened between Sandown and Shanklin. Appearing at the East Hampshire Magistrates Court in Portsmouth yesterday (Saturday), Booth, 23, had his existing driving disqualification extended by the bench. Furthermore, as he was released on licence early for other offences, his licence was recalled and he will now serve the rest of that time in custody, ending in November next year.
A BANNED driver from Shanklin accused of colliding with several parked and driven vehicles whilst disqualified, is to appear at East Hampshire Magistrates Court in Portsmouth this morning (Saturday). A 23 year old man faces charges charges of driving whilst disqualified, failing to stop after an accident twice, driving without insurance and possession of cannabis. The incident happened between Sandown and Shanklin on Thursday evening. The suspect remains under investigation for driving whilst over the specified drug-drive limit.
