Activities. Organizers of the big fishing derby scheduled for the second weekend in february are holding out hope that the lake freezes over so everyone can be safe. Typically, we would have four to six inches of hard ice. It s typically safe for people to fish and small groups of people on the ice. Suzanne even though the signs are posted warning people of thin ice, the question is what ice . The record warm temperatures in december have left most of New Hampshire lakes wide open. Usually it takes several nights between zero and 10, no wind and long cold nights for the ice to form on the large lakes. The fire started around 8 30 this evening. As you can see, the home was heavily damaged by the fire. Authorities say there was no one inside the home when the fire started.
