there might be the possibility that he would implement what he described as punishing sanctions against turkey. so the threat of more sanctions, that is not new. when you think about what has materially changed between the spoken threat of the sanctions to the president and this moment in time right now. it seems like what has simply changed is that the treasury department, the white house has gotten sort of the paperwork together so to speak and i m sort of speaking in metaphors here. it s not clear what it s going to take to activate these sanctions. is it the kurdish casualties, the length of the turkish military operation? the secretary did say the treasury is close contact with the state department but i still think it is notable that there are questions about what teeth are behind this move. there were a couple of questions about the china trade deal that the top chinese negotiators are in town to help hammer out.
