Why I faked my own kidnap, 24-year-old teacher confesses

A 24-year-old lady teacher, Medinat Ibrahim, who allegedly faked her own kidnap in the Olude, Oke-Fomo area, Ilorin, Kwara State last Saturday said she committed the crime to raise money to settle debt which accrued from the monthly contribution in her place of work.
Medinat, who was paraded alongside two other suspects – Amudalat Wahab (30) and Hammed Lekan (28) – by the Kwara State Police Command on Wednesday, said she decided to commit the offence as a result of frustration and stoppage of her salary by her employer following the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

CP Mohammed Bagega, said that on Jan. 2 information was received from one
Nurudeen Solagberu that one
Medinat Ibrahim of Olude Oke-Fomo area of Ilorin was kidnapped by unknown persons.
Bagega said that the command received the information at some minutes past 5pm via its emergency telephone lines.
According to him, on the strength of the information, the complainant was directed to make a formal report at Oloje Police Division that has jurisdiction over the area.
“Preliminary investigation revealed a conspiracy, so I directed the newly constituted state anti-kidnapping to take over the investigation.

Officers of the Kwara state Police Command, on Wednesday, paraded a 24year-old teacher identified as Medinat Ibrahim for conspiring with her sister and one Lekan to stage her kidnap.
According to the suspect, the crime was committed to raise money to settle a debt she incurred during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Medinat who is said to come from a polygamous home was paraded alongside two other suspects, identifed as Amudalat Wahab (30) and Hammed Lekan (28).
She said she was prompted to stage her own kidnap following the termination of her monthly salary due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A 24-year-old graduate of Muyideen College of Education, Zango-Kulende, Ilorin, Kwara State, Medinat Ibrahim, has been arrested for conspiring with two other suspects to plan her own kidnap.
Parading the suspects at the state police headquarters in Ilorin on Wednesday, the spokesman of the command, SP Okasanmi Ajayi, who addressed newsmen named two other suspects who conspired with Medinat, as Amudalat Wahab (f) 30, and Hammed Lekan (m) 28.
He said “On January 2, 2021, at 1750 hrs, an information was received from one Nurudeen Solagberu (m) of Oko-Olowo area of Ilorin through the command’s emergency telephone line, to the effect that one Ibrahim Medinat (f) of Olude Oke-Fomo area, Ilorin was kidnapped by unknown persons.
