Bylaw and police officers will enforce an extended state of emergency and stay-at-home order across Ontario, Premier Doug Ford announced Friday.
It’s the fourth time this month that the province has tightened public-health restrictions in response to a surging third wave of COVID-19 cases.
The new measures come as admissions to hospitals’ intensive-care units have skyrocketed to 701 patients, a record during the pandemic.
“The reality is there are a few options left,” Ford said. “We’ve implemented the strictest measures in all of North America, and the difficult truth is every public-health measure (that) we have left comes with a massive cost to people and their lives.
