By midday, firefighters were going doortodoor on leslie avenue checking smoke alarms and installing new ones if needed. Now, although neighbors have told us the names of the Young Children who were killed, the survivors and the family who lied here, were withholding that information right now because the Fire Department has not released that information. What i can tell you is that of the three survivors, the 33 yearold mother and her eight yearold daughter are hospitalized at this hour, suffering from smoke inhalation and there is an 11yearold who is reported to be in grave condition at this hour. Reporter this incident happened on the b2 bus at minnesota avenue and pennsylvania avenue at 12 45 this morning and there were several passengers on the bus when two teenagers got into a confrontation with the bus driver. There were two juvenile and who we believe are juveniles aboard the bus. They wanted to get off of the bus and the bus operator advised them he could stop the bus only at designated bus stops. They were not happy with that and when they finally exited the bus, the bus operator pulled over at the next stop. One of the two sprayed the operator in the head with mace. With pepper spray. Reporter now, the suspect fled northbound on to pennsylvania avenue after spraying the bus driver. We got a description of them. Two black males, 16 to 19 years old. They had tattoos you were their eyes. Witnesses said they were both wearing rolledup skull caps. One had on a blue coat, the other was wearing a black coat. This was the

Trapped. And 8yearold girl had managed to get out and was quickly swept up in the arms of a firefighter. Her mother got out of a window and was hustled to a metics gurney. Meanwhile, the other firefighters frantically searched the break rancher and carried the victims out. We have two victims of the front yard, a child and adult. Three in the front yard now. Two children, one adult. A 36yearold man and 8year old girl survived. An 11yearold girl was barely alive after firefighters revive your with cpr. What am i supposed to say . Officially, the fire is under investigation but its believed to be accidental. Likely the result of an electrical failure. Once it started, the family got no warning as the smoke and flames spread. We found no indication of a smoke alarm in the home. That particular fact is very sad for me. Neighbors say that just adds to their grief. Terrible. That could have been my kids.
