Suntrust Bank has launched the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Product Loan for women in the logistics business tagged ‘Women on Wheels’.
The initiation, which was launched in Lagos, is a 24-month facility aimed at empowering Female Uber and Bolt drivers in Nigeria with Car Loans at a 15 per cent interest rate.
The Chief Executive Officer of Suntrust Bank, Halima Buba, said the loan is an asset finance programme for female Uber drivers between the ages of 18 and 52 years.
Buba further disclosed that the bank had designated N250m for the project alone.
She said: “We gave out 100 vehicles to 100 beneficiaries in Lagos and have plans to visit two other states, Abuja and Port Harcourt before the end of April and gradually other state capitals in Nigeria.

She had written them off as uncooperative and difficult children. But after Talatu Maidoki, a teacher at the Kamsulum Junior Secondary School in Maiduguri, Borno State in north-east Nigeria attended a psychosocial training, her views on three children in her class changed.
“I had thought that people who are stressed or traumatized are mentally challenged,’’ said Maidoki, who has been a teacher for 10 years.
“Before, the training, I did not know that it also had to do with feelings and emotions. Now I understand why these children burst out crying each time I ask them to respond to questions in class. They are certainly going through anxiety. I have learned the symptoms of stress and trauma and I can identify the signs now. Once we resume school, I will apply the knowledge from this training and support these children,’’ said Maidoki.

SunTrust Bank boosts SMEs with N23.96bn loan

In its commitment to make the growth of the small and medium scale enterprises (SMEs), its primary focus, SunTrust Bank gave out a whopping N23.96 billion as loans and advances to the sector in 2019.
This information was contained in the bank’s annual report, made available to newsmen over the weekend.
The chairman, Olanrewaju Shittu, while addressing the shareholders at the bank’s fourth Annual General Meeting, AGM held in Lagos, noted that despite the challenges of the year under review, SunTrust Bank was still able to increase its balance sheet by 24.61 per cent from N43.97 billion to N54.79 billion.
