POTTSVILLE – The Jim Thorpe girls knew it would be difficult task.
Having to replace a mountain of talent from last season’s Schuylkill League and District 11 championship team, the Olympians surpass.
At times they appeared to be over-matched, but they were never overwhelmed.
Even when they fell behind by 10 points early in the third period, Jim Thorpe refused to wither in the final minutes against.
The Jim Thorpe girls may not have the firepower it had in the past, but when this season’s Olympian squad figures a way to complement each other, it could be an interesting winter.

Jim Thorpe and Panther Valley had something to prove on Friday night.
And in the end, both teams succeeded.
The Olympians ended up holding on for a 51-47 victory in both school’s Schuylkill League ope.
If the maturation of a varsity basketball team requires the seasoning of several games, then Jim Thorpe took their first big step toward that goal Monday night with a convincing 56-35 win over Pleasan.
