A fresh case of fraud and criminal conspiracy was registered on Thursday against six people, including "mastermind" Abdul Malik and his wife, in connection with the February 8 violence in Haldwani, the police have said.

Uttarakhand's Haldwani Violence news today: The communal tension has gripped the Haldwani area of Nainital district in Uttarakhand on Thursday evening after violence broke out in Banbhoolpura over the demolition of an “illegally built” madrasa. In view of the current law and order situation, the district magistrate has imposed a curfew in Banbhoolpura besides a ‘shoot-at-sight’ order has also been issued against the rioters.
Clashes erupted Thursday night after an anti-encroachment drive in Haldwani's Banbhoolpura area. Earlier in the day, Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Radha Raturi, DGP Abhinav Kumar, and ADG Law & Order AP Anshuman reached Haldwani to assess the situation.
