December 10, 2021 Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, and Joleen D. Simpson, Special Agent in Charge of IRS Criminal Investigation in New England, today announced that Matthew V. Blackwell of Woodbridge, waived his right to be indicted and pleaded guilty yesterday before U.S. District Judge Sarah A.L. Merriam in New Haven to one count of tax evasion.

Leonard C Boyle, Acting United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, on Tuesday announced that YAMIL DIAZ, 48, formerly of Alabama, was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A. Meyer in New Haven to 24 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release, for failing to register as a sex offender.
The Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (“SORNA”), which was passed by Congress in 2006 as part of the Adam Walsh Act, provides a comprehensive set of minimum standards for sex offender registration and notification in the United States and seeks to strengthen the nationwide network of sex offender registration and notification programs. In part, SORNA requires registered sex offenders to register and keep their registration current in each jurisdiction in which they reside, work, or go to school.
