ERCOT, which manages the majority of the electrical grid in the state of Texas, is facing billions in unpaid bills related to the winter storm in February and GEUS, Greenvilleâs electric utility system, is on the hook for part of the deficit.
The GEUS board of trustees conducted a public hearing Thursday night, where General Manager Alicia Hooks explained why the utility was planning on seeking approximately $20 million in short term financing to help defray the costs of the bill. Hooks said some electric companies are already facing bankruptcy filings due to the shortfall.

Greenville City Councilman Al Atkins discusses a proposal to grant 1,000 gallons of water credit for Greenville residents in response to the winter storms of February.Â
The Greenville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to provide residents a break on their February water bill in the wake of the winter storm that wreaked havoc across the state last month.Â
In a compromise plan, brokered by City Council members Al Atkins and Brent Money, the city will provide 1,000 gallons of credit for all residential customers, while allowing those who had significant leaks caused by the winter storm to seek billing adjustments and provides leeway for residents to not be penalized under an existing city policy if they have a leak in the next 24 months.Â
The Greenville City Council called an election for a $50 million street improvement bond Tuesday.
As proposed, the cityâs payments toward the bond would mostly be made with the $2 million per year that is normally set aside in each yearâs budget for the cityâs Street Improvement Plan, and therefore would not be a vote for a tax increase, Mayor Pro Tem Jerry Ransom explained at the last two city council meetings.
On Tuesday, Greenville City Manager Summer Spurlock outlined four possible scenarios for how the $50 million might be distributed between collector roads and residential roads. With the conditions of Greenvilleâs roads being a common complaint among residents, each scenario included more attention to residential roads and less to collector roads, when compared to the previous scenario.

KK Downing and Rob Halford, plus producer Tom Allom and Mantas from Venom talk to Michael Hann about Judas Priest being the first (metal) gang in town and their five decade history
Judas Priest today: fifty not out
It’s perhaps hard to comprehend at this distance, but Judas Priest might just be the most important band in the history of heavy metal. These days, they appear as old reliables – Rob Halford is, in his own words, “the stately homo of heavy metal” as much as the Metal God these days; they’re good for a headline slot at Bloodstock and capable of filling theatres, but not stadiums like their old students Iron Maiden – but in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Priest pretty much single-handedly drew up the template for what a metal band should look like and sound like.
