KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) completed recounting of votes cast at the 276 polling stations of the NA-249 constituency on Saturday the third consecutive day of the exercise in which PPP candidate again emerged as winner.
On April 29, the day of the polling, PPP candidate Qadir Khan Mandokhail had obtained 16,106 votes while Miftah Ismail of PML-N had secured 15,473 votes, according to provisional results.
On Mr Ismail’s request, the ECP ordered the vote recount. Initially, the candidates of PML-N, PTI, MQM-P, and Pak Sarzameen Party boycotted the recounting while eight other candidates, including those of PPP and the banned Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan, took part in the process.

The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has emerged victorious by a greater margin after the recounting of votes for the NA-249 by-election.
After the recount of votes polled across all 276 stations, PPP’s Abdul Qadir Mandokhel secured 15,656 votes, whereas PML-N candidate Miftah Ismail got 14,747, showing a victory margin of 909 votes.
When the unofficial by-poll results were first announced, Mandokhel had won with 16,156 votes, while Ismail came in second with 15,473, reflecting a difference of 683 votes.
In the vote recount, Mandokhel lost 500 votes, while Ismail 726 votes.

KARACHI (Dunya News) – All the political parties except Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) have boycotted vote recount in National Assembly (NA) constituency NA-249 by-elections, claiming that the seals of vote bags were broken.
The representatives and candidates of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) left the office of returning officer.
PTI candidate Amjad Iqbal Afridi and MQM-P’s Hafiz Mursaleen have demanded re-polling in the entire constituency.
The development came after ECP had accepted the plea of PML-N and ordered recount in NA-249 by-elections.
Miftah seeks shifting of by-polls record to safe location under army’s supervision

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) candidate Miftah Ismail has requested the chief election commissioner (CEC) to take emergency steps for taking the custody of the NA-249 by-election record, which is currently under the custody of the police.
Miftah Ismail in his plea has sought emergency action by CEC to seize sealed ballot papers and other election material used in NA-249 by-polls. He stated that the election material should be kept at a secure location until the emergence of the final results of the by-polls.
He demanded the CEC to keep the election material at a safe location under the supervision of Rangers or Pakistan Army. He thanked the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for issuing a stay order on the results of NA-249 by-election.
