Two Palestinians were shot dead and one was critically injured by Israeli fire after the three of them shot at an Israeli military base near the West Bank, prompting Israeli police to bolster presence across the country and in areas bordering the West Bank, fearing further attacks.
The three Palestinians, who were carrying homemade rifles, opened fire at Israel Defense Forces soldiers who were stationed at the Salem base near the West Bank city of Jenin, the IDF Spokesperson s Unit said.
Border Police officers, who were also stationed at the base, shot at the Palestinians in response, killing two of them and injuring the third. He was taken to Haemek Hospital in Afula in very serious condition and treated in the hospital s trauma center in the emergency medical department.

The Palestinian Authority holds Israel responsible for the escalating violence in East Jerusalem and the West Bank, a spokesman of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said Friday. A continuation of Israel s policy of occupation and crime toward the Palestinian people will raise the tension and bring a dangerous escalation, Nabil Abu Rudeineh said. We call on the international community to intervene and pressure Israel to cease its aggression, so that the situation does not get out of control.
The statement comes after three Palestinians opened fire at Border Police at the gate of the Salem military base, near Jenin, after crossing into Israel. The forces returned fire and hit them, killing two of the Palestinians and seriously wounding the third, who was evacuated to Haemek Hospital in Afula. His 17th birthday was on Sunday. Ahmed Falana was born on April 4, 2004, and is the fourth child of his parents. He spent his birthday in Megiddo Prison in northern Israel, probably not even remembering his big day. His parents, Aida and Abed al-Razek Falana, could not wish him a happy birthday. They don’t even know his condition. Even when he was hospitalized in Hadassah Medical Center in Ein Karem, Jerusalem, after being struck by bullets fired by Israel Defense Forces troops, his parents weren’t able to be by his side. And even when Falana woke up from surgery, after one testicle was removed, his parents could not be by his side. They could neither be with him or speak to him on the phone. Abed al-Razek tells us he will do anything just to hear his son’s voice even for a few minutes. Just to know how he’s doing and to give him support. But the Israeli authorities refuse to allow that.
