Compost site complaints dismissed after regional council investigations

Mike Watson07:00, Apr 30 2021 Supplied Several complaints were made about Remediation New Zealand s Urutī site in the weeks leading up to a hearing into its resource consent renewal. All 19 complaints were dismissed by the Taranaki Regional Council. (file photo) Nineteen complaints made against a Taranaki organic composting company in the lead up to its resource consent renewal hearing have all been dismissed following regional council investigations. The allegations were made against Remediation New Zealand’s site at Urutī, North Taranaki, between February 24 and March 23 for odour, and the discharge of material causing foaming in a nearby stream. The hearing into the company’s application for renewal of its resource consents for the site started on March 24, with a decision expected by May 19.

Formal council hearing needed in New Plymouth compost consent case

Simon O Connor/Stuff The contents of 23-litre para kai/food scrap bins are still being trucked out of the district, as a stoush over resources consents heads to a hearing. (File Photo) A week-long hearing is the next step in an effort to resolve a stoush over resource consents which left New Plymouth district s food scraps being trucked 300 kilometres out of the city. Efforts to resolve opposition to Remediation (NZ) Ltd s attempts to renew two resource consents necessary to run their Urutī-based composting facility have not been successful. A formal Taranaki Regional Council (TRC) consent hearing, set down for one week, will start on March 22 next year, before two accredited councillors and one iwi commissioner.
