welcome back. i m frederiricka whitfield. from russia s hacking operations to the attack at istanbul s nightclub to north korea s imminent nuclear missile preparations, today is shaping up to be a busy year in foreign policy and sure to impact donald trump s incoming administration. earlier, i spoke with jamie cubcub ruben, on how the president-elect may be tackling these unsettling issues. i think the idea of islamic-based terrorism is certainly something that president-elect trump made clear zboing to is going to be his highest priority. fighting the islamic state in iraq and syria and wherever

the u.s. is expected to expel 35 russian diplomats suspected of being buy spoospies, close two compounds in maryland and new york expected to have russian activities and sanction two leading intelligence services, sanction three russian companies that supported these hacking operations, they also will be penalizing four top officers at the organizations. also, two russian people who have been named in unrelated cyber activities and those two people are suspected of stealing $100 million from u.s. financial institutions, universities and government agencies. president obama did release a statement. let s go ahead and put that up. these actions are not the sum total in response to russia s aggressive activity and continue to take a variety of actions at a time and place of our choosing. some of which will not be publicized. obviously, steve, the importance
security advisers, that they want a strong improved relationship with russia? i am encouraged by that. that doesn t discount or at all put aside the big differences we have with russia, where russia is today and what they did, ukraine, crimecrimea, their involvement clearly now, military involvement, and they re there to stay, i suspect, in syria. we ve got to find some platforms of stability and start working together if we can to sort this out because the question i have is where does this go. we can continue proxy wars on and on and on and it will bring more suffering, more death, more slaughter. so yes, i m encouraged. can they do it, can they find enough common ground, we ll see. do you have any doubt that the russians interfered in these hacking operations in the u.s. presidential elections? from what i know and i ve not seen the intelligence but i think it s pretty clear that russia did do what we think
states. whenever there s a void, mother nature hates a void. that void will be filled up and you re seeing russia and china do it, and iran do that. that comes from a lack of leadership. that s why you see america so excited about putting these people in place of leadership. that s why mr. trump is where he s at. he ran a heck of a campaign and just unboundless energy. general clapper says there s no doubt the u.s. intelligence community is confident the russian government directed the recent compromises, these hacking operations. you don t necessarily accept that conclusion from the intelligence from the director of national intelligence, is that what i m hearing from you? i m going to wait until i m able to read an intelligence brief. i haven t been able to see one. so i m going to hold my opinion. we ve seen them be wrong on other things, too. so let s just hold off is my opinion. i think that s what donald trump
