HC grants bail to 89 Chandpur BNP activists

A total of 89 BNP leaders and activists of Chandpur secured anticipatory bail from the High Court today in a criminal case filed on charge of preventing police from discharging duties and injuring them during a clash.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan granted them bail till February 22 after hearing 11 separate petitions filed by the accused.
The court also asked them to surrender to the trial court concerned by February 22 in connection with the case.
Sagir Hossain Leon, a lawyer for the accused petitioners, told The Daily Star that a group of local BNP leaders and activists of Hajiganj upazila of Chandpur brought out a procession on January 12 in protest against an order of a Chandpur court that issued arrest warrant against BNP leader Tarique Rahman in a sedition case.

178 BNP leaders, activists get bail from HC The New Nation

The High Court on Wednesday granted anticipatory bail to 178 BNP leaders and activists for one month in 16 cases filed with different police stations in Dhaka over the incidents of torching 11 buses at different places in the capital city on November 12 in 2020.
The High Court bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Md Riaz Uddin Khan passed the order after holding hearing on separate 36 petitions filed in this regard.
Barrister Kayser Kamal and advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal appeared in the hearing for the bail seekers, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state.

Lawyer Kaiser Kamal, accompanied by Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, stood for the BNP leaders and activists in the court, while Deputy Attorney General Abul Hashem represented the state. The BNP leaders and activists will have to appear before the court by Feb 7, lawyer Kaiser Kamal told reporters afterwards.
