launches spirited court bid to interdict ouster
accuses Mahao and PM Majoro of being “crusaders of corruption” and of “insatiable desire” to protect corrupt people by firing him.

THE Director General of the Directorate on Corruption and Economic Offences (DCEO), Mahlomola Manyokole, has sensationally accused Prime Minister Moeketsi Majoro and Law and Justice Minister Professor Nqosa Mahao of seeking to oust him to protect “corrupt” government officials and others from being investigated and prosecuted.
Adv Manyokole makes his damning allegations against prime minister Majoro and minister Mahao in court papers in which he seeks to interdict the moves to suspend him pending firing. He filed the court papers on Friday shortly after receiving a “show cause” notice from Prof Mahao why he should not be suspended
Metsing cries foul
MASERU-MOTHETJOA Metsing says the government’s attempt to charge him with treason despite SADC’s advice to the contrary smacks of hypocrisy.
Speaking at a rally in Tsikoane on Sunday the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) leader said his impending treason charges show that the government only listens to SADC when it’s convenient to do so.
Metsing said it is unfair that the government is insisting on charging him when it allowed Attorney General Haae Phoofolo to go scot free for the 1994 incident.
He said in 1994 the government obliged when SADC advised that Advocate Phoofolo should not be charged with treason “but now it wants to charge me despite the decision of the very same SADC”.
JSC bemoans crippling shortage of judges JSC bemoans crippling shortage of judges
Mohalenyane Phakela / Pascalinah Kabi
THE Judicial Service commission (JSC) has bemoaned the crippling shortage of judges which has resulted in a huge increase in the backlog of criminal and constitutional cases.
This was disclosed by JSC secretary, Advocate ‘Mathato Sekoai, in her court affidavit filed in opposition of Law and Justice Minister’s counter-application for the nullification of the process initiated by Acting Chief Justice ‘Maseforo Mahase and Attorney General Haae Phoofolo to recruit five new judges.
Adv Sekoai is JSC secretary by virtue of being the registrar of the High Court and Court of Appeal. Her affidavit represents Justice Mahase who authorised her to depose it.
