we ll be covering. nbc news national correspondent steve kornacki is at the big board in new york. steve. in missouri the story claire mccaskill, the democrat trying to win her third term. trying to hang on not just in a red state, not just in a trump state. it was a big trump state in 2016. missouri voting for the president by 18 points. he almost doubled the margin mitt romney got out. speaking in 2012 a lot of people felt coming into this election that claire mccaskill was lucky to be in the senate. she was up for re-election in the senate. she had the republican opponent who self-destructed. a lot of republicans walked away with him. claire mccaskill ended up wiping that election against a powerful republican. the republican party recruited h imto win thinking he would be a
powe k focusing so much on health care. she started pushing a year ago, i think she sees that as one issue that can help her get especially rural older people and rural women on who are very concerned about this issue. i ve covered a number of her town halls that she did. health care became like the top issue which is one of the reasons she s been hammering at it before a lot of other democrats did. still, for her to win, she has to have a huge turn out in urban, stc. louis and kansas city. she s got to do well in the suburbs to make up for losses in rural missouri. she can t lose rural missouri too much. she needs to be high 30s. that s sort of the dynamic of this race and i would argue that missouri is more purple. until 2016, all of our statewide office holders, most of them
