A US lawmaker of Indian origin has proposed legislation to double the annual intake of foreign workers on H-1B visas, which is a short-term work permit that has been used by Indians to work and eventually seek US citizenship. The bill would lift the annual H-1B visas from 65,000 to 130,000, primarily addressing the shortage of highly skilled workers to support US technical innovation and competitiveness.
