Hammers president Jason McPherson said Dobsonâs feat was all the more impressive because it was her very first year playing senior womenâs rugby.
âCaseyâs only in her first year in the senior womenâs, and sheâs got an opportunity to represent Gympie which is just tremendous,â McPherson said.
âSheâs come from the touch football background, sheâs a very good sprinter. I think she was a state representative in both.
âSheâs got speed to burn. Itâs tremendous, to think this is coming off the base of the school rugby implemented in town.â
Curran was announced as the womenâs coach last November, some 17 years since his previous stint at the club ended, but could not continue in his new role and handed over the reins earlier this month. Former Brisbane Bronco Darren Burns and previous womenâs coach Troy Carlson will tag team leadership duties as the season moves ahead.
Carlson took the Devils to a grand final in their inaugural womenâs season in 2019.
Burns, also a Brisbane Broncos game development officer and former Devils president, said he was excited to help take on the role after Curran told club brass he could not juggle the coaching role with work commitments.

A former boxer who once had a âpromising careerâ has avoided a stint behind bars for selling methamphetamines to an undercover police officer.
Gympie District Court heard Mark David Hanson sold five clip-seal bags of the drug to the officer in a deal at his Gympie house on July 17, 2019.
The bags were kept in a container Hanson had tucked away inside an old sock.
Hansonâs defence barrister said his 52-year-old client had a âpromising careerâ as a professional boxer at the turn of the century but it came to an abrupt end when he was stabbed in the kidney.
The popular satire news site spoofed the boy from Widgee once again ahead of his Gold Coast Titans debut on Saturday afternoon, penning a friendly jab towards the 21-year-old earlier this week.
“Fan Favourite Tino ‘Big Country’ Fa’asuamaleaui Sparks Calls For More Rural Usos In The NRL”, read the
Betoota headline, referencing the Queensland Maroons young gun’s brawl with NSW rival Payne Haas in Origin II last year.
“After a sensational 2020 season from both Tino “Big Country” Fa’asuamaleaui and his NSW rival Payne “Killer” Haas, the NRL fanbase are enticed by this new sensation of Samoan rugby league prodigies who have been raised in the bush,” the joke article began.
Event organisers made the call to reschedule the event this morning after heavy overnight rainfall caused too much concern over the safety of competitors and animals alike.
“Thank you to everyone that puts so much effort into making these events happen. Even with the best COVID plans in place, too much rain over night has meant that we have had to postpone this event,” the organisers said through a statement on Facebook.
