Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has urged the Muslim community to offer a solution to the Gyanvapi Mosque complex controversy in Varanasi, which he says should not be called a mosque complex due to its historical and religious significance for Hindus. Adityanath argues that the mosque contains physical, scriptural and archaeological evidence that is often overlooked.
The Allahabad High Court will on Thursday resume hearing on a plea against a Varanasi district court order directing the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to conduct a survey to determine if the Gyanvapi mosque was built upon a temple.
The Supreme Court on Monday halted a ”detailed scientific survey” of the ASI to determine if the Gyanvapi mosque located next to the Kashi Vishwanath temple in Varanasi.
The top court asked Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who was representing the Uttar Pradesh government, to inform the ASI team that there should not be any "invasive work" or excavation at the site.
