The Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee, which looks after the affairs of the mosque in Varanasi adjacent to the Kashi Vishwanath temple, had filed the plea on Friday last week challenging the Varanasi court order allowing prayers in the southern cellar of the Gyanvapi Mosque.
Justice Rohit Ranjan Agarwal was hearing a plea filed by the Anjuman Intezamia Masjid Committee challenging a January 31 district court order permitting the conduct of Hindu prayers in a basement of the Gyanvapi Mosque.
The Allahabad High Court on Friday refused to stay Varanasi District Court’s order permitting prayers by the Hindu side in the sealed cellar of the mosque. The court asked the mosque committee to file an amended application by February 6.
The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to urgently hear a petition by the Gyanvapi masjid committee challenging the Varanasi Court’s order allowing prayers at sealed premises of the mosque.
