A good university is a community of scholars, researchers and students coming together to create an environment of learning, critical thinking, and a space for personal growth. But faculty at universities in Bangladesh, for the most part, lack initiative, are uninterested in learning new things, but are quite energetic in securing personal benefits.
Designing a great classroom for higher education must be the product of a thoughtful decision-making process: who are we teaching, how, and for what purpose?
On the third day of the event, two documentaries were showcased. The first featured the infamous Belonia Battle, and Pakistan’s first and only surrender to the freedom fighters. It emphasised how the battle is closely intertwined with Bangladesh’s military history and has a special significance in the turn of events that led to our independence.
The attributes of a good teacher are universal. They must have expertise and enthusiasm about subject matter, be prepared and organised for every class, must recognise the autonomy and agency of each student, and equip them with the tools to deal with problem in a 21st-century world.
