Nissan invests £52m into closed-loop aluminium production at Sunderland facility
Nissan has confirmed a new £52m investment into its Sunderland facility that will enable the use of recycled and lightweight aluminium for the production of Qashqai vehicles to reduce the energy required for material processing.

The £52m investment will focus on aluminium production at Nissan’s Sunderland plant. The automaker will invest in a second extra-large press line and a “cyclone” recycling facility that extracts scrap metal to be used by suppliers for re-production. The first press line was issued at the site last year and can produce scrap at 150km/hour while handling more than seven tonnes of metal an hour.

SK Innovation Co. posted a 502.5 billion won operating profit on a consolidated basis in the first quarter, turning around from a loss of 1.8 trillion won in the previous year.
The profit, the first in five quarters for the South Korean oil refiner and battery maker, beat the market consensus by 30 percent.
However, it lost 527.6 billion won in operating loss before the tax due to the hefty settlement costs for a battery lawsuit with LG Energy Solution Ltd.
Coventry unveils plans to host battery Gigafactory by 2025
Coventry City Council has partnered with a local airport to develop plans for a major battery Gigafactory that would help to scale up the local electric vehicle (EV) and energy sectors.

The local authority has today (16 February) confirmed that it is partnering with Coventry Airport Ltd to develop plans for the facility, which will be located within the Airport’s estate. The two organisations expect to file an outline planning application later this year and have received an endorsement from the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), which comprises the region’s seven urban councils. The WMCA has officially named Coventry Airport as the preferred site for the region’s first Gigafactory.
