News that a short film by a Castleisland writer, director, and University College Cork graduate, Shaun O Connor is in contention for an Oscar nomination, after securing a place on the Academy Awards 2021 long-list, is just what took me back all those years to that impromptu performance.

Film by UCC film studies graduate is in the running for an Oscar nomination Shaun O Connor s A White Horse has secured a place on the Academy Awards 2021 longlist after it was awarded Best Irish Short at the Foyle Film Festival in 2019.  The movie stars Cork actors Cora Fenton and Amber Deasy and was filmed in the City and County. A White Horse tells the story of how mental hospitals were once used as a catch-all for people considered troublesome or abnormal . Shaun graduated from UCC in 2006 and frequently gives masterclasses on campus.  Dr. Gwenda Young from the Department of Film and Screen Media at UCC said the Department is thrilled to learn of Shaun’s success:
