The body was stripped to its bare shell, the fuel tank, brake discs, and brake pads, were replaced, and the car was repainted by the same company that painted the car in 2004 to recreate the original livery.
Prodrive rebuilt the S10 to match the exact specification as the car Petter drove to victory in the 2004 Rally Japan, retaining his preferred suspension setup and seat and pedal box position. The attention to detail in the restoration is remarkable: even the water bottle mount is period-correct. This is the only Impreza that has been restored by Prodrive Legends so far. The Mitsubishi Motors heritage auction that was recently held in the UK has come to a close, and the car that was expected to garner the most attention, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Mäkinen Edition, was indeed the most sought-after car in the auction.
With a top bid of £100,100 (RM573k), the Mäkinen Edition broke the record previously set by the delivery-mileage Evo IX that went for around £99,000 (RM567k) back in 2017. Mitsubishi said there was a flurry of last minute bids as the auction deadline approached, which is expected for such a prized vehicle.

The car, which is one of just 2,500 made worldwide and has covered just 10,000 miles, achieved £100,100 at the auction, beating the previous record of £99,000 achieved in the US in 2017.
In total 15 cars were sold, achieving £479,000.
Close behind was the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR FQ-360 by HKS which eventually sold for £68,900, likely to be the third highest-value Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution ever sold at auction.
The Lancer Evolution X, number 40 of 40 of the final batch of FQ-440 MR special editions, the last official “Evo” sold in the UK, went under the hammer for £58,100, while the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX Group N Works Rally Car – the two-time championship-winner driven by Guy Wilkes and co-driven by Phil Pugh – sold for £61,700.

Like many automakers, Mitsubishi is focusing on the lucrative SUV and crossover markets, but the Japanese automaker has a rich sports car and rallying heritage. As Mitsubishi prepares to leave the UK market, the automaker has sold its entire UK heritage fleet of historically significant cars ranging from limited-edition Lancer Evos and rare replicas to championship-winning rally cars. As expected, the auction set new records in the UK, generating a total of £627,100 ($872,954) from 1,287 bids across 51 lots.
With a winning bid of £100,100 ($139,341), the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VI Tommi Makinen Edition signed by the legendary rally driver was the most expensive car to sell at the heritage, setting a new UK auction record.
