Hiltron Communications, a global satellite system integrator, manufacturer and distributor, has completed a satellite uplink and downlink system for one of Germany’s largest television news broadcasters. The project includes six antennas and related control infrastructure which will be used to communicate with the network’s associate organizations around the world.
“Following successful acceptance, we created a solution which integrates fully into the news production workflow,” says Hiltron Managing Director Antonio Monteverde. “Easy and efficient operation were essential requirements. The antennas are located on a city-center rooftop earth station and operated via remote links from the network’s master control room. Hiltron software allows the system to be supervised via a single browser-based display screen showing all relevant performance parameters, confidence lights and alerts. Todd Millstein, professor of computer science, recently won distinguished paper awards at three Association for Computing Machinery conferences:
OOPSLA 2020 (Object-Oriented Programming, Systems, Languages and Applications);
PLDI 2020 (Programming Language Design and Implementation); and
SIGCOMM 2020 (Special Interest Group on Data Communication). The ACM conferences’ top paper awards recognize groundbreaking research in advancing computing technology.
Millstein’s papers center on three separate concepts in the field of automated verification. He co-authored the papers with UCLA graduate students Steven Holtzen, Siva Kakarla and Saswat Padhi; fellow UCLA faculty
George Varghese; and collaborators from other organizations.
