principle. the idea you leave nobody behind, but it reminds me we have these debates about free speech. . somebody says something that s terrible, that s racist or whatever and we say it s a horrible sentiment that they are expressing, but they have the right to say it. somebody that tests your taste for the first amendment, something that tastes your test for the idea we bring everybody back. this is that sort of ultimate mix. it seems like the explanation now that the white house is saying we were trying to humanize him, everyone can relate to a parent s suffering. then you have, no, the parents were already in washington. they came together a little bit and maybe there wasn t the kind of thinking through. you have to keep in mind the administration might have been surprised about the kind of backlash considering there were many republican and democratic l lawmakers actively lobbying for them to bring this guy home.
lawmakers questions on the trade for bergdahl, are you getting a sense as to whether there s much more to come out at this point? well, i think one of the things that the secretary and the white house is going to continue to be on fire, under fire on, is the question of an investigation. they ve certainly implied, we ll look at the facts in this case. but it will seem to me that hagel might ease some of the concerns. he said, look, we want to bring this guy home. we re not saying he s a hero, we do believe in the military credence of leave no soldier behind, but we are going to investigate this case fully, completely, and then, as james rosen said, with eyes open, and if he needs to, be subject to military justice. i think that s one of the things that might ease a lot of the concerns about him. as far as the trade for the five taliban, you know, that horse is out of the barn. those guys are all in qatar and the nerms of their, quote,
was it a good deal. but, you know, we don t know all the circumstances the president was facing. what the options were, what the counteroffer and offers were. this is something, you know, this is a tough decision that the president had to make and he brought the guy home. i agree with you. i respect you as a smart, fair guy. why is this such a why is this such a pissy partisan thing? why do we have people all going to to me it s been a difficult issue. i don t find any partisanship in my heart in this. i m trying to figure the darn thing out. why is all the democrats sort of going along with it quietly and all the republicans generally going against it? why is it a partisan issue? i m so tired of it. everything is a partisan issue. if president obama got up tomorrow morning and walked across the potomac river people around here would say look, he can t swim. you know, it s a reflex. and i think it s wearing people out.
