Sweden’s probiotics firm Probi have revealed details of a new collaboration with Perrigo in a pact looking to launch a series of probiotic concepts for digestive and immune health within the European region.
While financial terms agreed with the American Irish–pharmaceuticals firm were not disclosed, the go-to-market plan will cover 14 European countries with the first product launch expected later this year.
“We see the collaboration between Probi and Perrigo as an important step in our commercial efforts in offering clinically documented probiotic products to European consumers in partnership with successful consumer healthcare companies,” says Tom Rönnlund, CEO at Probi.

A new clinical study published in the journal
BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies investigated the effects of a curcumin extract on gastrointestinal symptoms, mood, and overall quality of life in adults with digestive complaints.
While previous research suggests curcumin can alleviate digestive symptoms, past trials included curcumin as a component of multi-herbal combinations.
In the most recent study, the curcumin extract branded as Curcugen by DolCas was evaluated as a stand-alone botanical intervention.
The study
The 8-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study, led by Adrian Lopresti, PhD, was conducted on 78 adult volunteers with self-reported digestive complaints. Participants were recruited and randomized to receive either a placebo or 500 mg Curcugen.

The emergence of microbiome testing at home is advancing to a point in which people may be able to test their gut after a meal or when they have digestive issues, according to an expert.
In a presentation kicking off the final session of NutraIngredients Probiota Digital Summit yesterday (11 Feb), Dr Ruiari Robertson, Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Queen Mary University of London, predicted the emergence of home testing made possible by the gains made in analysis methods.
“The reason this field has expanded in the last few years is because of the advances in sequencing technology. Traditional sequencers are large, big hardware devices that sit on a desk in a lab.
