flooding, swamping entire neighborhood in oklahoma. declaring a state of emergency in a dozen areas. well another day, another round of severe weather across central u.s. it seems. meteorologist, derek van dam joins us from international weather center with more on that. we have been looking at those extraordinary size hailstones. what sort of weather system produces senate. you need a strong, super cell thunderstorm, andrew. we have had the setup for just that to play out over the central plain states. i want to show you some more ominous-looking clouds that were captured on film here in oklahoma city. this is called a shelf cloud. often seen along the leading edge of an approaching line of severe thunderstorms. that produce the large hail, andrew was talking about. show you pictures in a minute. accompanied by gusty wind. intense rainfall. passes overhead. time-lapse by the way. this actually forms when you get the cooler downdraft air. spread out in all directions on
damage to tom brady s reputation may be done. ryan smith, abc news, new york. thanks to ryan smith as always. stay with us here, new details coming in from the patriots and the nfl. stay with abc news, covering all these developments for you. also breaking overnight, tallying the storm damage now. across the plains there have been reports of more than two dozen tornados as well as strong winds, heavy rain, all from severe storms in oklahoma. more than 25 homes have been destroyed, many more damaged, cars flipped over, power lines down, trees uprooted. what s amazing, no major injuries have been reported. but as you can imagine, there were anxious moments. got really windy. like sheet rain coming. wild, scary. 25 people that were in there, and we all just kind of huddled together to stay safe. 20 miles to the north, so much rain fell so quickly in oklahoma city that their first-ever flood emergency was experienced in this city s history. that was declared there.
foundation. a roof torn off this barn, siding off this hotel. the parking lot of a strip mall, flooded. this time lapse shows the storm from the top of that damaged hotel. even oklahoma city under a watch. this tornado is massive. this is easily a half mile wide. reporter: a half dozen tornados reported across the state of texas. there s a funnel! there it goes! it s really getting stronger. oh-oh. reporter: the storms are bringing badly needed rain to thirsty texas. but flooding overwhelmed some roads near austin. a handful of drivers had to be rescued. as you can see behind me, all of this water is doing great things for lake levels here in the state of texas. just in time for summer. but of course, with all the rain comes that threat of tornados. ryan owens, abc news, dallas. let s take a look at the trouble spots today. first of all, severe weather continues in the plains. chance of more tornados is low but not impossible. some rain, gusty wind, likely in florida. along
