ED summons Sanjay Raut s wife Varsha again in money-laundering case

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued fresh summons to Varsha Raut, wife of Shiv Sena member of Parliament Sanjay Raut, for recording her statement in a money-laundering case.
The wife of the senior Sena leader is set to be questioned again as the agency has directed her to appear on January 11. She had come to the ED office on Monday where the agency questioned her for three and a half hours. The agency is probing transactions between Varsha Raut and Madhuri, the wife of the accused Pravin Raut. Pravin Raut has been associated with Guruashish Constructions, which is linked to the Housing Development Infrastructure Limited (HDIL). Over 73 per cent of the PMC Bankâs loan exposure was to HDIL, the ED probe revealed.

Mumbai: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation has revealed that Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut s wife, Varsha, received an interest-free loan of â¹55 lakh from accused Pravin Rautâs wife Madhuri which was used to purchase a flat in Dadar. The agency has alleged that the loan amount was acquired from the funds siphoned off from the multi-crore Punjab and Maharashtra Co-operative (PMC) Bank scam case which has been touted as one of the biggest banking frauds.
The ED has summoned Varsha Raut who is slated to be questioned in the case on January 5. The summons has led to political leaders of the ruling Shiv Sena-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking pot-shots against each other, a few even putting up a banner outside the EDâs Mumbai office in Ballard Estate declaring it the Maharashtra branch of the BJP.

The ED has attached properties worth Rs 72 crore belonging to Pravin Raut under PMLA in a PMC Bank loan cheating case.
Earlier, Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut s wife Varsha had been summoned for her alleged transactions with Pravin Raut s wife. Under scrutiny are loans or dues of Varsha Raut who has sought more time from ED to appear.
Among the transactions which are under scanner is a loan of Rs 55 lakh acquired from one Madhuri Raut, wife of Pravin Raut, who has been associated with Guruashish Constructions which is linked to Housing Development Infrastructure Limited (HDIL).
An explanation in this regard is likely to be sought during the questioning. The declaration in Sanjay Rautâs election affidavit also mentions the dues. ED sources stated that there are other transactions that are also under the ambit of the probe.
