Bhatia passed away in Amritsar on Saturday, his family members said. Former Minister of State for External Affairs, Bhatia was 100 years old. He represented the Amritsar parliamentary constituency six times from 1972, and was the Governor of Kerala from 2004 to 2008 and of Bihar from 2008 to 2009. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital a day earlier after he complained of uneasiness. Known for his impeccable image, Bhatia would have turned 101 on July 3. MP Manish Tewari paid a visit to Bhatia at his residence in December last year to enquire about his well being along with Amritsar MP Gurjeet Aujla.

Punjab Congress MPs to move Bill for repeal

New Delhi, February 9 Congress MPs from Punjab will move Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha to pressure the government for repeal of farm laws and urge other MPs to join them. Eight MPs Preneet Kaur, Manish Tewari, Ravneet Bittu, JS Gill, Gurjeet Aujla, Amar Singh, Mohd Sadique and Santokh Choudhary collectively and individually submitted the Bills to the Lok Sabha secretariat today. They said they would request Speaker Om Birla to prioritise the legislations in the interest of farmers. R-Day violence: Deep Sidhu arrested On the run since Red Fort incident on January 26, actor-turned-activist Deep Sidhu was nabbed by the Delhi Police from Karnal. He was remanded in police custody for seven days. The prosecution claimed that Sidhu was seen entering the fort with supporters carrying swords and flags.

3496 Aditi Tandon New Delhi, February 1 Going digital, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman read out the Budget from a tablet even as the Shiromani Akali Dal and Rashtriya Loktantrik Party, former constituents of the ruling NDA, walked out of the Lok Sabha in solidarity with the agitating farmers. Akali Dal’s Sukhbir Singh Badal and Harsimrat Kaur, RLP’s Hanuman Beniwal and AAP’s Bhagwant Mann flashed posters in the House demanding the repeal of the farm laws and stood in the aisle sloganeering in favour of the farmers. Five minutes into the two-hour Budget presentation, attended by PM Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the rest of the BJP top brass, Badals and Beniwal walked out.
