Flooded with students, Punjab govt schools face shortage of textbooks

Patiala, May 23 Anhad, a student of Class VIII of a government school in Patiala had to buy her SST, maths, and science books from the market. Reason: shortage of books for Class I to VIII at the schools. Similarly, Gurdish Kaur, a Class VI student, has to struggle for her studies as textbooks for maths and English are not available. Punjab School Education Board, in fact, prints and supplies books to the Education Department for further distribution among the students of government schools free of cost. But it has been learned that education of thousands of students is being compromised due to non-availability of textbooks.

Local Indian community shocked by young woman s death

Ms Kaur was a chartered accountant with SMC Chartered Accountants. Offering sympathies on behalf of the local Indian community, Anil Kumar said, “It is with immense grief and with a feeling of shock we learn of the sudden demise of Ms Navdeep Kaur. Advertisement “Ms Navdeep is the daughter of Mr Swaran Singh Purewal and Mrs Gurdish Kaur, brother Mr Kushpal Purewal, a well know cricket player in the North West. She is also the niece of Mr Harvinder Singh Purewal, known to the public as Harry, owner of the Taste of India chain.” Mr Kumar added that Navdeep was an “outstanding student in Loreto  and LYIT where she completed her degree in accountancy”.
