Nutritious food only a call away for Covid-hit families in Vijayawada

Express News Service VIJAYAWADA: Vijayawada’s Margam Foundation has come to the rescue of Covid patients in home isolation, and provides them nutritious food at their doorstep for no charge. All that one needs to do is contact the foundation on their helpline handled by a team of volunteers a day in advance. A Lakshmi Annapurna, its founder, said she had first-hand experience of the problems that a person in home isolation faces when she was infected in October. “I was under home isolation for almost two weeks, and could not even cook for myself in the period. After I recovered, I started working on the problem, and decided to serve food to others in isolation. However, I was able to capitalise on my goal in the Covid second wave.”

Prasanna Venkatesh said that 12 permanent vaccination centres have been set up across the city to provide the second dose of the Covishield vaccine to 6,000 persons daily from Thursday. Mr. Venkatesh conducted a meeting with all officials and Ward Secretariat staff here on Wednesday. The Commissioner said that 100 doses per slot will be administered and there will be five 2-hour slots at every centre. He added that only people with slips given to them by ward secretariats through local volunteers a couple of days before the date of second dose of vaccination will be allowed at the centres.

Electric scrap destroyed in Gunadala sub-station fire

Reason not yet known; nobody injured, says DFO A fire broke out in the 33kV Town Feeder (electric sub-station) at Gunadala around noon on Saturday. Scrap and plastic material was gutted in the accident. District Fire Officer (DFO) M. Srinivas Reddy said plastic meter covers, electric scrap and grass in the sub-station were gutted. On receiving information, three fire tenders from Autonagar and Vijayawada rushed to the spot and extinguished flames. The reason for the fire was not yet known immediately. Nobody was injured, the DFO said. In a press release, Vidyut Soudha (Transmission Corporation of AP) officials said the minor fire accident occurred due to shortcircuit caused by birds, and the damage was estimated at ₹30,000. The departmental officers acted swiftly and minimised the loss, the officials said.
