of advancing important pieces of gun violence prevention legislation that would prevent more tragedy. it is just a surprise. there has been more tragedy. republicans continue to use hateful, racist language that fuels some of these domestic terrorists, like the one in el paso, the one in buffalo. i am very deeply concerned about the future, which is why i will keep fighting for more gun violence prevention legislation, as will house democrats and senate democrats. on august 3rd, i will be at home in el paso with my constituents as we continue to heal. you know, just never forget those 23 lives that were taken. 23 people injured including one of the people killed by that racist person. it was a little boy.
40 past the hour. the pressure is on congress following more gun violence over the weekend. this time right here in our nation s capital where one teen was killed, three injured after a shooting at a concert that did not have permits. all of this bringing more urgency to the senate talks over gun violence prevention legislation with three sources telling nbc news that the full bill could be released in its entirety as early as today. joining us is punchbowl co-founder john bresnahan. our capitol hill team is hearing they re 98% there? yeah. they re getting there. they re pretty close. now there was a hang-up last week, they had hang-ups over a couple of issues, one was the so-called boyfriend loophole. whether they could keep guns out
what were the other key takeaways for you this morning? you see the president there juggling the multiple topics that are happening right now on capitol hill quite frankly. democrats wanting to keep this focus squarely on gun violence prevention. they re doing that through hearings like the one this morning. as well through legislative pushes like the one they re going to take on later this afternoon when they look to pass a package of gun violence prevention legislation. they will do another vote tomorrow on a red flags incentive piece. that s the only part that could be viable on the senate side. that s the only overlapping point between the bipartisan senate negotiations happening. when you hear the president there talking about crime and referendums and elections, that s where republicans are trying to put this focus. i was struck, one of the top members on the oversight committee on the republican side, jim jordan, wasn t in that hearing this morning when many
senate judiciary doing their hearing today. they re going to hear from the son of one of the women who was killed at the tops market in buffalo, and then we re also going to see victims families speak tomorrow in front of the house oversight committee. they re doing their own hearing focused on buffalo and uvalde trying to keep the focus on these gun violence deaths and the ways the house and senate both are trying to tackle this problem. just in the last few minutes as you were talking to the congressman, senate majority leader chuck schumer went to the floor and said democrats are aware they re not going to get everything they want in these senate negotiations around gun violence prevention legislation, but schumer said that he s giving senator chris murphy, one of the lead democratic negotiators on this, the space to figure out what can garner enough votes to actually pass the senate. because amid all of this flurry of action we re seeing on the house side with the package of gun l
