get down! orlando three tense horrifying hours. hands up! it was unimaginable. all units. newtown 27 people lost their lives. 20 of them young children. a mass shooting at a fourth of july parade. a shooting in highland park, illinois. why? why? those horrific events and so many others like them have come to define the united states. the most recent figures show that every day on average more than 100 people are killed with a gun in america. in total, there were over 19,000 gun murders and 24,000 gun suicides in 2020. compared to other rich countries america s gun violence is on another planet. the united states has eight times as many gun homicides per 100,000 people as canada, 50 times as many as germany and 100 times as many as the uk. these countries all face the same challenges with mental health. they all have the violent video games. other fashions pale in comparison when it comes to gun violence. another shooting, another angry young man. w
its citizen militia constitutes its army. most able-bodied men serve at least 245 days in the militia. they re all trained to shoot and most of them keep their guns at home. militiamen can hone their skills at their local shooting clubs, gun societies that boast more than 100,000 members offering classes, competition and comradery. we do competitions together and we are ayoung people and older peopler. this is ursula, a gun shooter since she was young. on the day we met her at her club she hit the bull s eye 18 out of 20 times. not bad for someone in her 70s. i was surprised, yes. i never did it. even the youngsters are expert marksmen.

school shopping. did you guys hear anything, see anything? yeah. i heard a lot of yelling and there were cops with guns and yelling get on your knees, and that s when we went back and we were scared to death. how did you get out? in the back. no, actually, we were in the front and they told us to get in line and to not stop and to keep going. who is they? who was the cops. the cops. okay. and i take it you guys were escorted out. yeah, we were escorted out with the cops. okay. who came with you? my husband, my daughter and there was other people, too, that were with us in the store. initially hearing this that there is an active gun shooter in the store. yeah. what ran through your mind? just it just blew my mind. i never thought that i would be in that situation before, you know, like i don t know. it s a pretty scary situation. i didn t think that, you know,
perspective, as a psychologist, between a shooting and a stabbing? is a stabbing more personal? there s no distance there between the perpetrator and the victims. that s exactly what it is. you don t have that proximity that you would. that normally the proximity you would have with this individual because he is in close. it s much more emotional. you see that rage much more. whereas with the gun shooter, there is much more of a distance between yourself and the intended victim. the gun is a buffer. and we ve seen that the gun shooters have been much more flat in their affect, much more calculating. look at this stabbing as more of what i would call a wild rampage versus a cold-blooded massacre of someone using a gun. so we don t know anything about the person who did this other than the suspect is a 16-year-old sophomore male. but the fact that it was a stabbing and not a shooting does
