republicans disagreed with it. does that take away some of the power that ruin yo, cruz and paul might have had in this debate? it delays it a little bit. first of all, let s be realistic here. the reason that the filibuster was not established is because of an agreement between senators manchin and toomey that presented a watered down version of gun registration. of the record checks. that kind of thing. already watered down. as we know, any attempt at an assault weapons ban is doomed in the united states senate. now we have this laborious process of senate debate you going to be amendments probably going to weaken it even further. you have the nra waiting for that deterioration to take place. you have politicians that quake at the sight of an nra lobbyist faced with a dilemma. are they influenced by the very human tragedy they are being faced with or will the instincts to quake at the feet of the nra going to take over in the final
important and people who really know the issues say this is where you get the most for, you know, what is, in context, fairly minimal legislation, but or fairly minimal trespass on second amendment rights. yeah, when you re talking about background checks, i think most americans don t think there is any trespassing. exactly. nra could create a gun registration and part of the bill says if you keep any of the records, you re guilty of a felony and you re going to jail. so the gun control debate is officially on the senate floor now. 16 republicans. 16 republicans joined 50 democrats and two independents in voting to allow the debate to begin. proposals are going to include expanded background checks on gun sales and strengthen mental health and school safety prameds. some of the family victims in the newtown tragedy still have

not lead to gun registration? joe, first of all, pat and i were very clear to make sure that we protected the rights of law abiding gun owners and clarified a lot of things that have been misinformed or basically not clarified enough. right now, the law is you cannot the ferguson cannot do a registry. we doubled down on that and made stronger penalties a felony if any law enforcement or anybody tries to do a registry for the federal government. so we basically strengthened the ability for them not to be able to do it and for us to be able to protect our rights. so anybody in the federal government keeps records, keeps these records, and creates their own registry. it will be a felony. that is a felony? absolutely. and they will go to jail? absolutely. you put legislation out there if they do this, you ll send them to jail? absolutely. that s right. that s how strong we feel can t be done and shouldn t be done and nor do i agree on that.
