criminal, that is not a federal criminal offense. it is just a paperwork violation. so, the way that you unwind these gun trafficking wings is to go after the straw purchasers, and use the serious federal criminal offense so that they turn in the folks who are putting them up to it. so, law enforcement will tell you that one of the greatest ways that we stop the flow of illegal weapons into our city, it s to track down on these purchasing rings, and this allows us to do that. i don t to sound paranoid, but i ve heard this from other people, is there some catch here? is there some nefarious, like, devils clause in there, something terrible in there, is there gonna be money for mandatory gun ranges in every neighborhood, or something like that. am i missing something, here? i mean, listen, there may be
people who have criminal records, who have mental health issues or are clearly not well trained enough. i personally went to a range a few years ago and i have used guns for a very long time, i have a lot of experience on it. watched a man pull out a handgun and put in a round, he never used it before and fired it straight in the ceiling right next to me. and this was at a supervised range. so imagine when we ll take any 18-year-old and within minutes issue them an assault rifle which they could use on any target and this is a period where we see white supremacy, misogynist terrorism where we see active shooters every day and it is the okay corral every saturday night as if it is the 1860s. it makes no sense. it is crazy. it really is. and i know they would go for nearly all of these measures at this point. that is the thing, clint. you ve been around guns. you ve gone to gun ranges.

outlier case. we just heard the facts, and they re astounding. shocking. horrifying. and it takes that kind of fact to hold a parent accountable for the actions of their kid. i don t think people who are watching this at home would want to necessarily be criminally responsible for everything their kid is doing outside of their presence, but here, when i look at michigan law, michigan jury instructions, i think you could make a case these parents knew about the danger, that these parents did not exercise ordinary care, that it was apparent this would be the result. those are the sort of things that prosecutors are going to have to prove. you can t prove that in a typical case, but in this one, i think charges in fact, the prosecutor was asked friday about michigan s lawson bringing children to gun ranges, practicing with them. this is what she had to say.
