aurora and just to watch the news back over and over again. i would just turn it off. and i could continue my day. and that s, like erica said, we can t do that anymore. this is our life. and unfortunately, more and more people have to deal with the pain of losing someone to gun violence. now, the washington post wrote how gun control is losing badly. the article shows gun-control advocates only raised 6.5% of what gun rights v s advocates . and when it comes to federal lob lobbying, gun rights lobbyists spent over $12 million last year. gun control groups spent $1 million. we have the founder and editor and chief, msnbc.com political reporter benji sarlon and contributing editor to theroot.com, corey daye. let me start with you. we look at what today s boston globe wrote. more than 1500 bills were filed
other. what the pro gun control groups look at is the fact that when you look at, you know, in terms of reasonable common sense reforms, now, what this editor was talking about, if i m not mistaken, was simply training. he wasn t talking about anything, i would say, by normal standard would be considered draconian. that s a point well made. that was pointed out. so even though they had such an objective response, such a heated response to this, i think when you look at the reality, the overwhelming majority of americans support background checks. the overwhelming majority of americans support common sense reasonable reforms. responsible actually, no. by the way, and just for the record, the notion that somehow gun control has no impact on gun violence, you know, there s oo reason why for example we have more gun murders in this country than canada does or any other european country. it s because we have more guns
the data proves that. but secondly, even in the heart of gun country, even where even in the heart of the gun culture, like colorado springs, where morse was from, you know, you still have getting an overwhelming support at least a very, very strong support for the colorado statute that was passed. and, again, the nra is losing the overall argument with the public here. this was i think a desperate effort by the nra to put a couple skulls on the fence and show some kind of public relations victory in a year that has been a disaster for them. they have lost the hearts and minds of the american public. you say that. but why did the money from the gun control groups not work as effectively as the nra money? i mean, is this the result of time having its effect and the nation frankly forgetting all too quickly the horror of what happened at sandy hook elementary school? well, i think there s three reasons for that. the first reason is that it was an excessively low turnout election.
