Dancehall star Mavado who currently resides in the USA has officially broken his silence with regards to the guilty verdict of his 18-year-old son Dante Brooks who is expected to be sentenced soon.
Mavado kicks off his surprise statement by giving thanks to all the people that have supported him and his family during these trying times.
He continued pointing out the corruption that stands in Jamaica’s justice system, he said “Corruption corruption corruption Jah know star! Some ppl are so fucking wicked how could a man change his statement over 4 times, even went on the stand and said that the police alter his statement”.
Dante Brooks, the 18 years son of dancehall superstar Mavado was found guilty earlier today January 27th in the Home Circuit Court located in downtown Kingston for Arson, illegal possession of firearm and ammunition, and murder.
Brooks is being represented by Lawyer Peter Champagnie QC and he told a reporter that the verdict will be “absolutely!” appealed. The much-anticipated trial begun on January 11th, 2021 after being earlier reported to start on January 7th. Two weeks after it starts, it’s ended with a guilty verdict for young Brooks and his co-accused Andre Hines who earlier pleaded not guilty to the charges laid against them.
Gruesome murder, attempt on Mavado’s life
Police reports on the incident indicate the alleged crime was committed on June 5, 2018, when a group of armed men ambushed the victim at home. Wielding machetes and guns, they broke down Israel’s door before spraying him with bullets. It was later revealed that a request was made for the victim’s head and Andre Hines, one of the co-accused tried chopping it off.
Following the incident that occurred in Mavado’s Cassava Piece neighbourhood, the singer acquired a few enemies within the community and three days later, an attempt was allegedly made on his life. He fled to the US, with critics bashing him for being a coward and abandoning his son.
