Last week it rose to 17,000 for the first time, but many experts are doubtful that bitcoin can function as a normal currency due to its wild swings in value. Last friday, it fell by 14 in a single day. Despite this, supporters of bitcoin believe that the introduction of futures contracts will help cement its status as a mainstream asset. Futures contracts are commonplace in traditionalfinance. They allow investors to lock in a price at which they can buy or sell assets in the future.
