(Marc Glucksman, Amtrak) The U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) “stands ready” to work with Amtrak, CSX, Norfolk Southern (NS) and other stakeholders to restore “long overdue” passenger service between New Orleans and Mobile, it wrote in a recent Surface Transportation Board (STB) filing.

Amtrak, in a news release Tuesday, indicated it was initiating a process before the STB to require the freight operators along the rail line – CSX Corp. and Norfolk Southern – to permit the nation’s passenger rail operator two daily Amtrak trains between New Orleans and Mobile.
