USM Receives $7 Million for Ocean Enterprise Efforts Mon, 04/19/2021 - 13:00pm | By: Margaret Ann Macloud The University of Southern Mississippi (USM) was recently awarded $7 million in state funding to support infrastructure associated with the Roger F. Wicker Center for Ocean Enterprise (RFWCOE). This appropriated money from both capital expense funds and the Mississippi Development Authority’s Gulf Coast Restoration Fund, brings the total to $21 million in appropriated monies to USM since 2019 for RFWCOE, infrastructure, and programming. The following projects will be supported by this $7 million award: Wharf and pier improvements supporting the Research Vessel (R/V) Gilbert R. Mason and two additional large research vessel slips

After years of planning, Gautier breaks ground on Town Commons project Updated Mar 16, 2021; GAUTIER It’s been in the works for nearly a decade, but Gautier has finally begun work on its Town Commons Park, with city officials breaking ground on the 32-acre facility Monday. The symbolic ceremony signaled construction is about to begin on the $1.9 million Phase I of the project, which will result in roads, drainage and other infrastructure, parking, and a great lawn area where City-hosted events such as Cruisin’ the Coast can be held. Officials noted the City has outgrown its existing facilities in terms of hosting large-scale events such as Cruisin’, which attracts upwards of 300 registered Cruisers along with hundreds of spectators each year.

(WLOX) - Residents and city leaders are hopeful once again that the old Singing River Mall property will be a focal point once more in Gautier. Thanks to the help of $3.5 million in RESTORE Act funding, Gautier Mayor Phil Torjusen announced last week that the city will finally be able to purchase the old mall property. Calling it a “defining moment” for the city, the mayor said this has been a longtime coming.
