Science News: An international team of scientists has employed exceptional multi-wavelength capabilities of India’s Astrosat to gain novel insights into the transient black hole X-ray binary system “MAXI J1820+070” located some 9,800 light-years from Earth. Accepted to be published in The Astrophysical Journal, the comprehensive study presents unique revelations about this cosmic phenomenon’s behaviour during its 2018 outburst.
Discovered over four decades ago, Cygnus X-1 is one of the first confirmed black hole systems in our galaxy, located at a distance that is about 400 times more than the distance between Earth and Sun.
